Bea Arthur once told a story she'd heard from drag legend Charles Pierce:

A man's mother was coming to visit. She was put to stay in "his room" whilst he bunked with his "roommate," "Michael."

His mother always loved his silver service & shortly after her departure they noticed that the gravy ladle was missing. He wrote his mother a letter which said, "I'm not saying you took it. I'm not saying you didn't, but if you know where the gravy ladle is, would you please return it?"

She replied, "I'm not saying Michael is your lover. I'm not saying he isn't, but if you were sleeping in your own bed, you'd have found the gravy ladle by now."
